Voices of Women

As part of the celebration of National Women's History Month in March 2004, the Los Angeles Jewish Symphony will join with other California orchestras in a statewide salute to female composers and conductors. This effort has been initiated by The Women's Philharmonic in partnership with the Association of California Symphony Orchestras.    In support of this effort, LAJS' renowned conductor and founder, Dr. Noreen Green (one of California's few female conductors), will conduct a concert of Jewish music featuring the works of five contemporary female composers.    The concert is part of the Symphony's 10 th anniversary celebration.

The concert's repertoire will feature the works of six contemporary female Jewish composers - Michelle Green Willner, Maria Newman, Meira Warshauer.

Andrea Clearfield, Sheli Nan, and Sharon Farber.

This concert is sponsored by the City of Los Angeles Cultural Affairs Department and USC Casden Institute for the Study of the Jewish Role in American Life.
