MICHAEL
SOKOL, newest member of the UCSB voice faculty, is known for his tremendous
versatility and style. He
has just returned from his critically acclaimed performances as Faninal
in Der Rosenkavalier with Nashville Opera, Nardo in Mozart's La Finta Giardiniera
with the Netherland's Opera Zuid, Popolani in Offenbach's Barbe-Bleue with
Opera Français de New York and the world premiere of There is a
Garden: The Music of Leonard Bernstein, conceived-created-directed (and
performed) by his wife, internationally renowned soprano Angelina Réaux
for Chicago Opera Theatre. He has also appeared with the Metropolitan
Opera, the Santa Fe Opera, Glimmerglass Opera, Portland Opera, Opera Omaha
and was a featured performer in the Olympic Arts Festival with the Atlanta
Opera. Acclaimed for his performances of twentieth-century opera,
he created the role of Frank Lloyd Wright in the world premiere of Darren
Hagen and Paul Muldoon's opera Shining Brow. This season's singing
engagements include performances with the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra,
St. Louis Symphony, the Boston Celebrity Series and Nevada Opera. |
