| Lucas
Richman has been the Assistant Conductor for the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra
since 1998 and also presently holds the post of Principal Conductor of
the Disney Young Musicians Symphony Orchestra. He served as the Principal
Conductor for the Pasadena POPS Orchestra (CA) from 1997 to 1999, and as
Assistant Conductor for the Pacific Symphony from 1988 to 1991. He has
appeared as guest conductor with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Spokane
Symphony, the San Antonio Symphony and the Colorado Springs Symphony Orchestra,
among others. A recent highlight includes Mr. Richman's invited participation
in 1997 as one of eight conductors in the American Symphony Orchestra League’s
National Conductor Preview with the Omaha Symphony which resulted in his
being named as a Catherine Filene Shouse Foundation Conductor for 1998-99
season.
Mr.
Richman won critical acclaim for his musical direction of the 1995 revival
of Leonard Bernstein's Candide at Los Angeles' Ahmanson Theatre, and also
conducted there for Matthew Bourne's sensational presentation of Swan Lake.
Earlier in his career he toured with West Germany's Schleswig-Holstein
Musik Festival Orchestra, where he was one of four conductors from around
the world selected by Leonard Bernstein to share the maestro's podium for
concerts presented in London and Moscow. He has also worked with many film
composers as their conductor including such films as Academy Award-nominated
As Good As It Gets, Face/Off, Seven, Breakdown and Anastasia.
As
a composer, Mr. Richman continues to develop an impressive and diverse
catalog which has received international exposure. His works not only include
solo and chamber ensemble compositions, but also numerous orchestral pieces,
ranging from concerti and contemporary tone poems to innovative selections
for pop programs and youth concerts. May of 1999 heralded the premiere
of a new choral work commissioned and written for the Pittsburgh Symphony
Orchestra, WAKE ME A SONG, while in 1997, Mr. Richman conducted the premieres
of his cantata entitled THE SEVEN CIRCLES OF LIFE with the Spokane Symphony
and his composition BE A CONDUCTOR with the Los Angeles Philharmonic. The
last four years alone have seen performances of his music by over forty
orchestras across the United States.
From
1994 to 1998 Mr. Richman served as founder and director of the Stephen
Wise Music Academy in Los Angeles. He earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree
in Music/Violin from the University of California at Los Angeles in 1984,
and received his Masters of Music degree in Conducting from the University
of Southern California in 1987. |
