| David
Katz is originally from Phoenix, Arizona where he began his formal voice
training with Ruth Dubinaum. It was at this time that he attended
the Brandeis-Bartin Institute’s Young Artist Program. The experience
moved and inspired him so much that he decided to become a Cantor.
In 1993 he was accepted into the Hebrew Union College and in 1998 was ordained
as as a Cantor.
Currently
serving as the Cantor for the prestigious Raleigh Hotel in New York, he
has since studied with some of the world’s leading cantors, composers and
conductors including; Eli Jaffe, conductor of the Great Synagogue
Choir, Jerusalem; Cantor David Lefkowitz, Park Avenue Synagogue, New York;
Cornelious Reid, world renowed voice teacher; and Cantor Noach Schall.
His
musical comedy roles include Nanki Poo in The Mikado, and Ralph in Pirates
of Penzance. He was Woof in Hair as well as Huckleberry Finn in Big
River. Cantor Katz also sang the leading role in the World Premiere of
Robert Kaplan’s The Creation.
Cantor
Katz concertizes throughout the United States singing Yiddish, Opera, Broadway,
and Cantorial favorites. He has also performed on behalf of B’nai
B’rith, The American Conference of Cantors, and various children’s charities.
He dedicates this and all of his performances to his wife Julia and child
Rayna Danielle. He feels they are like his voice, gifts from God.
It is their joy and love which filil him with the inspiration to sing. |
