Julieanne Klein was raised in New York, where she began studying
the piano at the age of five, and voice at the age of twelve. She
continued her dual studies throughout the completion of her Bachelors of
Music degree, which she received from Westminster Choir College in Princeton,
New Jersey. During this time she worked extensively as an accompanist
and vocal coach while pursuing her vocal career.
Ms. Klein is a versatile singer who has performed throughout the
United States, both as a professional choral singer and as a soloist.
As a member of the select Westminster Choir, she has performed in numerous
cities on the east coast, including New York, Philadelphia, Washington
D.C., and at the Spoleto Festival in Charleston, South Carolina.
She has recorded both the Brahms Requiem and the Britten War
Requiem with the New York Philharmonic under the tutelage of Kurt Masur
(Teldec). Broadcasts include an all Schubert and Brahms program on
National Public Radio, and two Live from Lincoln Center performances.
Ms. Klein has also sung professionally with Opera Festival of New Jersey,
The New York Choral Society and Opera Orchestra of New York. Her
solo career includes numerous recital and concert performances, in addition
to public masterclasses with reknowned coaches Dalton Baldwin, Martin Katz,
Alan Smith, Horst Günter, and Mikael Eliason. She has performed
much of the standard oratorio repertoire, including the Magnificat,
St. John Passion, St. Matthew Passion, Messiah, and
Israel in Egypt. On the operatic stage she has performed the
role of Elle in Francis Poulenc’s monologue opera La voix humaine,
the New Prioress in Poulenc’s Dialogues of the Carmelites and Miss
Jessel in Benjamin Britten’s Turn of the Screw.
In recent years, Julieanne has established herself as a proponent
of new works. She has premiered music by composers David Sampson,
Karen Marolli, Corey Crawford, Eric Nussbaum and Nick Strimple. In
February she sang the music of Chris Dench in the Music of Changes concert
series, a nonprofit organization established to assist contemporary composers
with the presentation of their music. This concert was filmed and
recorded for future broadcast on Ovation, Knowledge, and Wisdom networks,
cultural television channels, reaching a viewing audience of 25 million.
In March Ms. Klein will make her debut with the Los Angeles Jewish Symphony
singing Toch’s Cantata of the Bitter Herbs. Later this spring
she will be performing Apparition by George Crumb, in addition to
future engagements with Music of Changes. Julieanne received her
Masters of Music in Vocal Arts from the University of Southern California,
where she is currently on staff as an academic advisor for the music department. |
