Joseph Gole is not only
an acclaimed cantor, but also a brilliant concert artist and classical
musician. He has served as Cantor of Sinai Temple for eleven years, first
from 1972 to 1982 and then from September 2000 to the present. Considered
by many to be one of the finest cantors of his generation, he combines
a beautiful lyric tenor voice with impeccable musicianship and artistic
Cantorial styling.
A native of Southern California, he attended
the University of Judaism, Hebrew Union College, and is a graduate of the
University of Southern California School of Music, where he majored in
opera and voice. Cantor Gole considers himself especially blessed to have
studied privately with Hazzan Allan Michelson z”l, Hazzan Samuel Kelemer,
and Jewish repertoire coach Erwin Jospe z”l. A past faculty member of the
University of Judaism and the Baal Tephilah Institute, Cantor Gole has
worked and encouraged numerous young hazzanim who occupy leading cantorial
positions today. Cantor Gole currently serves as a national officer of
the Cantors Assembly, the largest professional organization of cantors
in the world, and was previously chairman of the group's West Coast Region.
His professional musical credits include numerous
performances with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Pacific Palisades Orchestra,
the American Youth Symphony, Guild Opera Company of Los Angeles, the Laguna
Opera, and Euterpe Opera Company, to name a few. In addition, he has performed
at the Holland Festival and the Edinburgh Festival of Scotland. He recently
performed in the 50th Anniversary Concert of the Cantors Assembly at Carnegie
Hall and in New York’s Central Park. Cantor Gole is married to Rickie Weiner
from Cleveland, Ohio who is an accomplished singer and sought after voice
teacher. They have two children, Hannah and David. |
