Biography of
Joseph Gole

Joseph Gole is not only an acclaimed cantor, but also a brilliant concert artist and classical musician. He has served as Cantor of Sinai Temple for eleven years, first from 1972 to 1982 and then from September 2000 to the present. Considered by many to be one of the finest cantors of his generation, he combines a beautiful lyric tenor voice with impeccable musicianship and artistic Cantorial styling.

A native of Southern California, he attended the University of Judaism, Hebrew Union College, and is a graduate of the University of Southern California School of Music, where he majored in opera and voice. Cantor Gole considers himself especially blessed to have studied privately with Hazzan Allan Michelson z”l, Hazzan Samuel Kelemer, and Jewish repertoire coach Erwin Jospe z”l. A past faculty member of the University of Judaism and the Baal Tephilah Institute, Cantor Gole has worked and encouraged numerous young hazzanim who occupy leading cantorial positions today. Cantor Gole currently serves as a national officer of the Cantors Assembly, the largest professional organization of cantors in the world, and was previously chairman of the group's West Coast Region.

His professional musical credits include numerous performances with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Pacific Palisades Orchestra, the American Youth Symphony, Guild Opera Company of Los Angeles, the Laguna Opera, and Euterpe Opera Company, to name a few. In addition, he has performed at the Holland Festival and the Edinburgh Festival of Scotland. He recently performed in the 50th Anniversary Concert of the Cantors Assembly at Carnegie Hall and in New York’s Central Park. Cantor Gole is married to Rickie Weiner from Cleveland, Ohio who is an accomplished singer and sought after voice teacher. They have two children, Hannah and David.
