Evan Kent, tenor, has been the cantor for Temple Isaiah in West Los Angeles for the past ten years. He is a 1988 graduate of the Hebrew Union College, School of Sacred Music and received his Master’s in Sacred Music and Cantorial Investiture.  Previous to his cantorial education, Evan earned his Bachelor’s Degree from the Manhattan School of Music and pursued additional training at the Chautauqua Institute Opera Workshop.  He also earned a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from the City University of New York.

In addition to his cantorial responsibilities at Temple Isaiah, Evan has been a member of the faculty at the Unviersity of Judaism, Department of Continuing Education.  He has concertized extensively throughout New York, California, and Israel. He was a faculty member for this past summer’s Kallah at Santa Cruz and is on the UAHC Committee for Adult Jewish Growth.

This past year, Cantor Kent was the liturgy co-chair for the Reform Rabbi’s Conference in Anaheim.  In the year 2000, he will also be one of the chair people for the annual American Conference of Cantors annual convention to be held in Los Angeles.  His one man show, “Love Affair: A Jewish Musical Journey told Through Story and Song” has been presented throughout Southern California and the United States.  Evan can also be heard as the voice of a singing pirate on a soon-to-be-released Bugs Bunny cartoon.
