Colin
Schachat was born in Johannesburg, South Africa in 1962. He has an
extensive classical and Cantorial repertoire. He
officiated as Cantor of the Linksfield Senderwood Hebrew Congregation in
Johannesburg for six years prior to emigrating to Israel in July 1992.
Colin has performed as baritone soloist with the Jerusalem Oratorio Choir,
Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra (IBA), Ra’anana Symphonette Orchestra, National
Symphony Orchestra of South Africa, Johannesburg Symphony Choir and Johannesburg
Jewish Male Choir. He is due to appear with the Los Angeles Jewish Symphony
Orchestra and the Lithuanian State Orchestra in 2002. He has recorded and
released 5 CD’s containing a wide variety of repertoire including Cantorial,
Yiddish, Israeli and Classical music, (including recordings of duets with
Cantors Ya’akov Motzen and Moshe Schulhof) with various symphony orchestras
and ensembles. In addition to his operatic repertoire, he also performs
major Oratorio roles, including that of the lead soloist in Bloch’s Sacred
Service and Mendelssohn’s Elijah. Colin performs regularly in Israel,
Canada, USA and South Africa. He has appeared numerous times on Radio and
Television. Colin continues his vocal and Cantorial studies at the
Tel Aviv Cantorial Institute. Colin is an Executive Director of a Financial
Services Company He holds BA and LLB degrees and is married with 4 children. |
